Glade 2008 FAQ

Glade 2008 is Britain's most happening electronic dance music festival, now in its fifth year in West Berkshire. Have you given feedback for the organisers yet?

Glade 2008 FAQ

When is it?

18-20 July 2008. This has now been officially announced by The Glade.
The gates open to the public at 12 noon on Thursday, 17 July.
That also happens to be the time our Glade countdown is set to.

Where is it?

It is expected to be at Wasing Estate in Berkshire again (nearest train station is Thatcham).

When are tickets on sale and how much are they?

The Glade organisers have announced that tickets will officially go on sale on 20 March. However, people on the Glade mailing list will have the opportunity to buy 'early bird' tickets on 29 February.

Face value for this year's tickets is £125, plus booking fee of £6, making a total of £131. Overseas tickets have an additional charge for postage. You can buy a maximum of five tickets per card.

You no longer need to supply names and addresses for other people besides the cardholder, because the new activation system makes them unnecessary.

The organisers add that the 'secure card' ticket might easily not be valid if bought from anyone other than Gtickets or Access All Areas. In other words, don't buy a ticket from people selling on websites such as eBay as you could end up being ripped off because you have no way of knowing whether the ticket has been activated or not.

When will the full line-up be released?

A large chunk of the line-up has now been announced on the official website. You can keep tabs on developments by reading the GladTalk forum and our Glade 2008 line-up list. Our lists of 2006 and 2007 were noted for their high accuracy.

Where can I send a demo CD for Glade crew to check out?

You can try contacting them at info@gladefestival.com

Will they show the football?

Pubs in the surrounding villages and towns are understood to have televisions.

What's the deal with alcohol this year? Will there be a limit on how
much we can bring?

Please note the rules on personal alcohol levels have changed:

"It can only be brought in when the licensed bars are not open -
from 12 noon Thurs to 10pm Thurs.

"Only personal amounts can be admitted:
12 X CANS OF BEER
OR 2 X BOTTLES OF WINE
OR 6 X CANS OF BEER AND 1 X BOTTLE OF WINE
NO SPIRITS
NO GLASS WHATSOEVER SO BRING WINE IN BOXES OR PLASTIC BOTTLES!

Is it possible to pitch tents in the campervan field?

Organisers: No, due to fire regulations.

Can you clarify re use of BBQs (disposable or otherwise) within the arena and camping areas?

Organisers: No BBQs in any area - fire safety.

Are there cash machines at Glade?

Sperge: Yes.

But try to bring in adequate amounts of cash if you can, as the queues can get very long at times. Could be a great way of making new friends etc, but maybe not so great if you miss a favourite act. Some people have reported that these mobile ATMs only take debit rather than credit cards.

You can always put any surplus cash in the free 24-hour property lock-up until you need it.

What is the capacity for Glade this year?

As revealed here, the capacity is 12,000 ticket sales. The organisers feel that is the ideal number for the Wasing site and intend to keep it pegged at that level from now on.

Reason: updated permitted alcohol amounts - sorry, we don't make the rules on this and neither do the organisers, it's a licensing thing.

Will Aphex Twin be playing?

Who knows? *shrug*

Aphex Twin last played in 2005, he's long overdue for a return. But since Bestival has announced him as an "English festival exclusive", it's looking pretty unlikely that he'll be doing a full live set of his own material anywhere else in England.

There was the possibility that he was free under the terms of this contract to still play DJ sets, perhaps under one of his aliases (such as AFX), or that the exclusivity clause could be bought out from Bestival, but this is clutching at straws somewhat.

I think it can be safely said now that he's not playing. There were attempts behind the scenes to get him to play, despite the exclusivity clause with Bestival, but they weren't able to make it happen at the end of the day. That's why The Orb were brought in as a very worthy replacement.

Reason: revealing a little more about the AFX situation

Do you still need ID to get into the festival?

You do if you look like you might be under 18.

Organisers: "There will be a Challenge 21 type operation at the gate. Under 18s will not be allowed in and if you look like you might be you should show ID. If you are 21 or under we recommend bringing ID. There is a 24-hour secure and free lock-up if people are worried about bringing ID with them... If in doubt bring ID!"

Are there decks in the Rabbit Hole space? And can anyone play?

There are definitely no DJ slots at the Rabbit Hole - organiser Nick Ladd says "it's more of a live jam instrument thing - you rock up and rock out - any pre-event enquiries should be made to Hamish." (drop Sperge a PM if you need Hamish's email address).

However there is a new mini-venue called Come and Play and there are 15-minute DJ slots available there - more details coming soon.

How many people can I bring in with one campervan ticket? All people will obviously have normal glade tickets.

Organisers: You can have as many in one camper van as you like so long as they all got tickets - it's a public field.

Remember that's one campervan ticket for the van and one Glade ticket each for the people.

Are tents and awnings allowed in the campervan field?

You are allowed awnings, but not tents. It's the law apparently.

Updated the permitted alcohol amounts above. Sorry, we don't make the rules on this and neither do the organisers, it's a licensing thing. :(

Am intending to change the format of the FAQ to make stuff easier to find shortly.
